One of the top research universities in the world, MSU pushes the boundaries of discovery and forges enduring partnerships to solve the most pressing global challenges while providing life-changing opportunities to a diverse and inclusive academic community through more than 200 programs of study in 17 degree-granting colleges.

Over the years, symbols, icons, traditions and trademarks have come to represent the passion of Michigan State alumni, fans, students and student athletes. In the mid-1980s the University Licensing Program was established to ensure that these marks and symbols are used properly. 

The primary roles of the Michigan State University Licensing Programs include the following:

  • Protect the brand: Michigan State has worked hard to establish a powerful and respected brand identity. We must first protect the brand while at the same time modernize and adapt licensing programs to build for the future.
  • Promote: Our role in University Licensing Programs at MSU is to help our partners sell licensed product by only allowing use by officially licensed vendors on quality products.
  • Profit: Royalties generated by the sale of licensed products directly support students at MSU through scholarships and special programming.
